Cubans
Human Rights Action Group is working with Cuban human rights groups, including Democratic Spaces and CUBA DECIDE, to help Cubans end the human rights violations that continue to be committed against the Cuban people.
Following the crackdown on pro-democracy protests in Cuba on July 11, 2021, repression in the island reached levels not seen in decades. Cuba is now the leading jailer of political prisoners in the Americas, with more than 1,000 political prisoners, a figure higher than that of Nicaragua and Venezuela. Based on numerous reports from human rights organizations, political prisoners in Cuba are subjected to cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment.
We made a request on behalf of Democratic Spaces and Cuba Decide promoters to Global Affairs Canada to impose targeted sanctions on high-ranking members of the Cuban Armed Forces and the Interior Ministry who are responsible for gross and systematic human rights violations. We also made a request to the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission to remove Cubavisión Internacional from the list of non-Canadian programming services and stations authorized for distribution.
We continue to work to seek justice for the people of Cuba.
