Human Rights Action Group participated in the Toronto Democracy Forum held at the University of Toronto on November 16-17, 2025. The Toronto Democracy Forum convened legal experts, activists, and policy professionals to discuss challenges to democratic governance and strategies for defending democratic values globally.
HRAG co-founder and president Sarah Teich spoke on a panel addressing legal strategies for challenging authoritarian regimes. Teich’s presentation focused on the use of targeted sanctions, strategic litigation, and related accountability mechanisms to combat human rights abuses and mass atrocities committed by dictatorships. Drawing on HRAG’s work representing victims of atrocity crimes, the discussion examined how legal tools can be deployed to expose regime abuses, protect dissidents, and create consequences for human rights violations.
