On the occasion of the sixty-seventh session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women (CSW67), the Journalists and Writers Foundation (JWF) organized the event “Intersectional Violence Against Women in Turkey” in New York. This event brought together experts and human rights defenders to discuss critical issues on a series of panels. JWF, an international civil society organization dedicated to promoting peace, human rights, and sustainable development, is associated with the United Nations Department of Global Communications.
Sarah Teich participated in the panel held on March 8, 2023, at the Church Center for the UN. This panel was organized by Set Them Free (USA) in partnership with JWF and Advocates of Silenced Turkey (AST). Other panelists included Hafza Girdap, Executive Director of AST; and Hozan Cane, a Kurdish songwriter and women’s rights advocate. During her remarks, Teich highlighted the human rights violations committed by Erdogan, and emphasized that women are among the most vulnerable. She specifically discussed three cases involving women she represented, detailing human rights violations committed against them.
